Mad Science Summer Art Camp 2026

We experimented, explored, and created with color, paint, paper, balance, and melting plastic!

Campers learned how colors in ink separate as they explored chromatography. They used their experiment strips to create weavings.

After learning how colors in ink separate, campers experimented with mixing watercolor paints to create a range of colors. They also experiemented with a variety of watercolor painting techniques which used to add color to their row of glass flasks, beakers, jars, and bottles.

Campers noticed ink seeping into the water while watching shredded scrap paper soak in preparation for going through the blender to create paper pulp. They added threads, snippets of fabric, hole punch chads, and various colors of paper pulp to make new papers.

While watching Shirnky Dinks and #6 plastic cups in the toaster oven, campers noticed that as #6 plastics melt, they warp and colors (whether colored pencil or Sharpie markers) become more intense. They used their melted plastics to create Mobiles after learning about exploring balancing art stands.
