So Many Mushrooms!!!

This month the temperatures, rain, humidity, and whatever else mushrooms like have aligned perfectly. All over town folks are talking about the proliferation of mushrooms, both in quantity and variety. 

I have learned various mushroom facts and learned the life cycle of the poisonous red mushrooms in my yard, the ones I was informed: “make Santa and his reindeer fly”. I pick that variety, in all phases of its lifecycle, just before my Pre-K class members arrive and explore my yard. Much like my students, the mushrooms especially like all the pine needles under the large pine tree in our front yard.

I have seen tiny mushrooms the size of baby peas and large mushrooms that are bigger than a large pancake. I have seen a single log with many varieties and a single variety completely covering a log. And so many colors! I hadn’t realized Turkey Tail mushrooms grow in so many different color combinations!
